Well I didn't need another reason to ditch IE for Mozilla FireFox ...
but I sure did find one this weekend!
I was surfing the web, creating new folders and bookmarking new pages.
I decided I wanted to rename one of the folders and create another folder
within it using the original name. I went to the Manage Bookmarks feature
and located the folder who's name needed to be changed and popped up the
properties box. It was then that I noticed two tabs labelled Schedule
and Notify. The Schedule tab tells Firefox to check the bookmarked
page for updates on a scheduled basis. This could be everyday, weekdays
or a specific day of the week. You can then set the time frame when checking
should occur - say 9AM - 5PM, and how often the bookmarked page should
be checked within the time frame specified.
On the Notify tab you specify how Firefox
should let you know when changes have occurred. Your choices are:
- Change the bookmark's icon
- Display an alert
- Open web page in a new window
- Play a sound
Most of my bookmarks (I have way to many) will not require this feature, but for a few it will be very handy. I use the RSS reader extension for Firefox. It doesn't tell me when a feed has been updated, I have to open the viewer and hit each RSS feed's bookmark. In addition, there are blogs that do not parse properly and cannot be read by readers. Scheduling update notifications will make following this content much easier.
