Permalink Admin 2004 Product Showcase - Have you got a SPAM problem?

Last week I was given the opportunity to visit the product showcase at Admin 2004 as a guest. I expected to see a wide variety of products focused on Domino Administration. While there were several, the main focus was clearly on E-Mail management particularly SPAM reduction. There were at least half a dozen SPAM related products on display all claiming unique SPAM fighting abilities. Some products are really services, others are actual products designed to work specifically with Lotus Notes, and still others are appliances designed to work with any email infrastructure.

MailFrontier fails into the latter category. It is not just a SPAM solution, but it is also a virus solution and an anti-fraud solution. MailFrontier is also more than just a Domino solution as it's a gateway that is integrated into your infrastructure and not your mail server.

SpamSentinel appears to be a hybrid product that combines software with a service. SpamSentinel works in conjunction with SpamNet. SpamNet is a community that provides information about SPAM they have received. SpamSentinel blocks checks incoming mail against SPAM reported to SpamNet. In addition, users can create their own black and white lists.

SpamSentinel is not to be confused with spamJam from Granite Software. spamJam is a complete, flexible software solution that filters out SPAM based on black and white list criteria specified by the Domino Administrators or individual users.

A product I hadn't heard of is GateKeeper for Notes from Angel Infinity. Unlike spamJam which is comprised of agents added to users' mail databases, GateKeeper for Notes is a server task that is designed to trap SPAM at the gateway. Like spamJam, GateKeeper allows administrators to create global settings, but also allows control at the user level.

Another offering in the SPAM arena is FrontBridge TrueProtect TrueProtect is not a SPAM product at all, but rather a service offering. E-mail addressed to your organization is first routed through the FrontBridge data center, checked for SPAM and then either quarantined or forwarded to the addressee. A web interface let's users inspect and manage quarantined mail within 30 days of its receipt.

Last in this group is iQ.Suite from Group Technologies. iQ.Suite is so much more than just a SPAM fighter. iQ.Suite contains 3 modules for a complete e-mail security program. securiQ can filter spam, analyze images, provide server-based email encryption, implement rules-based email archiving and add a legal disclaimer to all emails leaving your organization. iQ.Suite also contains an organizational module - organiziQ, and a management module - managiQ. This is a comprehensive e-mail management solutions that happens to include SPAM control.

Each of these products comes from a slightly different direction, so there's bound to be one that will meet your needs.
