Spring is here and its time to "Paint the Town".
I moved to Boston's South End about
12 years ago. I left Beacon Hill for a larger, cheaper, bug free apartment,
in a neighborhood that was quite a bit less gentile with ample parking.
The South End has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It is now one of
the hottest places to live in downtown Boston, and finding legal on-street
parking is extremely difficult. When I moved here there was already a vibrant
artists' community in the neighborhood and every fall they, like other
artist communities in and around Boston, open their studios to the general
public.
This year something new has been added
to the landscape - The
SoWa Art Walk and The
South End Open Market . SoWa
(that's South of Washington - yeah its a blatant rip off of SoHo in NY)
area artists will be opening their doors to the public on Sunday May 23,
2004 from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. At the same time, the South End Open Market
will kick off its season on Harrison Avenue from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. The
market will offer crafts, antiques and a farmer's market. This sounds like
a great way to spend a sunny spring afternoon. I plan to be there and if
you're in the area you should be there as well. If you make it down, be
sure to hang around and grab a bite to eat in one of our many wonderful
restaurants. Also remember to stop back here and let me know what you saw,
what you liked, where you ate, etc.
