When clever design really is clever.
Yesterday I wrote about a web site who's
navigation was overly clever. Today I'd like to talk about two web site's
that I think get it right. One I just happened on yesterday, the other
I found about a month or so ago.
The one I found yesterday was for Marquam
Group. I like it because its clean,
neat, compact, easy to use, and different from anything else I've seen
lately. It works well because there isn't a lot of content being displayed
in the center. This design could be expanded a bit to accommodate a larger
volume of text as long as site visitors aren't forced to scroll through
long pages of text. Of course what I really love is that this is a Domino
site, and while it uses CSS and javascript and wasn't implemented with
Flash or any other plugin.
I found the other site as a result of
hearing something on television about Caroline Kennedy's husband Ed Schlossberg,
and his success as an artist and exhibit designer. I decided to see if
there was a web site so I could see what he's been doing. That's how I
found ESI
Design. Let me warn you first
that this site does have sound and does use flash. The sounds are the only
negative for me, they're are cute at first, but eventually I want to turn
them off and can't - sigh. As far as Flash goes, this site demonstrates
how to incorporate Flash into a web site without alienating the site visitor.
It's used primarily for site navigation. It doesn't hog the show or slow
down the site. When you make a selection the page you selected displays
first followed by the navigator. I really like this site. Check it out.
Its a fun way to implement a site that's about serious business.
